Four-week old baby girl abandoned by mother at train station

Appeal: the image of the woman, right, police wish to speak to

A four-week-old baby girl was being cared for today after her mother abandoned her at a railway station.

A member of the public made the discovery in the third-floor baby changing rooms at Victoria Station, central London, at 6.30pm yesterday.

Police released CCTV images of a woman they would like to speak to.

Detective Constable Dave Peek of British Transport Police said: "The baby is safe and well and being looked after, and we believe that the woman pictured in the images could help us with our inquiries."

Anyone who recognises the woman is asked to call BTP on 0800 40 50 40 quoting incident number 606 of May 14.

All calls will be treated in confidence.
