Fly-tippers lead wardens to their front door

13 April 2012

Careless fly-tippers led litter wardens straight to them after they illegally dumped their front door with the house number still attached, it was revealed today.

They also dumped a sofa, near to their home in north Wales, with a letter addressed to them stuffed down the side of a cushion.

The rubbish was discovered dumped by the side of a road in Rhos, near Wrexham, tied to a 'No Fly Tipping' sign.

Litter wardens from the local authority had no trouble tracking the offenders down using the door number and discarded letter. Upon questioning they accepted responsibility for the waste and were issued with a £75 fixed penalty as well as a bill of more than £100 for the cost of cleaning up their rubbish.

Officials at Wrexham County Borough Council said they would not name and shame the offenders who had admitted their offence and not faced prosecution in the courts.

Andy Lewis, Wrexham's chief public protection Officer, said: "It is unacceptable. We will continue to pursue this problem and in addition to fines, offenders can also look forward to receiving a hefty bill for the cleaning-up and disposal costs."
