A bumblebee that has been extinct in Britain for more than 20 years could soon reappear in the capital, scientists said today.

The Bumblebee Conservation Trust plans to reintroduce the short-haired bumblebee to a reserve in Dungeness, Kent.

Dozens of farmers have signed up to sow plants to attract the bees.

The bumblebees will be bred from a colony on New Zealand's south island and transported in hibernation.
