First gold vending machine sells bar in seconds

Britain's first gold vending machine was switched on today - and sold its first bar in seconds.

Businessman Michael McCleary, 45, was the first person to invest, buying a one-gram bar for £47 at Westfield centre, Shepherd's Bush.

Prices rise to more than £10,000 for a 250g bar and there are 10 sizes to choose from.

Mr McCleary said: "Gold seems the safest commodity to buy at the moment and this lets ordinary people purchase it conveniently."
