Fire near Buckingham Palace sparks Mall clearance

Blaze: the Mall was cleared after cars caught fire
12 April 2012

A car caught fire on The Mall this morning, just yards from Prince Charles's residence.

Staff at Clarence House could see smoke from the windows as two fire crews worked to put out the blaze, which spread to two other cars.

A spokeswoman for the London Fire Brigade said: "We were called to a car alight on The Mall at 10.32am today. Two fire engines and 10 firefighters attended the scene. There are no reports of injuries."

Police closed the road to traffic and pedestrians between Admiralty Arch and the Queen Victoria Memorial.
