Father's food for gastro-babies

A FATHER of two who became a babyfood entrepreneur after being made redundant, today urged sacked workers to "follow your passion".

Tom Burrough, a former advertising executive now dubbed a "yummy daddy", lost his job three weeks after his first daughter was born.

He spent 12 months trying to find a new job before deciding to follow his dream and start a company producing healthy food for toddlers and babies.

Burrough's Baby Food, made in Wales, includes recipes such as Moroccan lamb, and liver and bacon casserole.

None of the food contains additives, preservatives, E-numbers, salt, sugar or GM ingredients. It is also cooked at 90C instead of the usual 120C to preserve nutrients and flavour.

Mr Burrough lost his job in Soho after returning from paternity leave in 2002.

The 43-year-old, from Fulham, planned his new career after his wife went back to work and he became a house husband.

Mr Burrough now has two children, Bliss, six, and Flora, two. He was inspired to start his own company after cooking meals for his daughters instead of using tinned baby food.

He said: "Lots of baby food smells nasty, like cat food. I don't think parents should give their children anything they wouldn't eat themselves."

Talking about his unconventional flavours he said: "Liver has such great nutritional qualities I was determined to make a dish that babies would like."

Mr Burrough and his wife Louise, 35, plan to have another baby when the business takes off.

He added: "My message to people in a similar situation who can't find a job is to think about what your passion is and just go for it."
