Father's cash plea for girl, two

Emine Sinmaz13 April 2012

THE father of a two-year-old girl who suffers from a terminal illness told today how he is determined to raise millions for research into the disease.

Amelie Durao Lewi has been diagnosed with Tay-Sachs, a rare genetic disorder whose victims rarely live beyond four. Symptoms can include muscle stiffness and fits and eventually the patient can go blind. Parents, Daniel Lewi and Patricia Durao Lewi, both 30, of Hither Green, have set up a charity to raise money for a clinical drug trial. Mr Lewi said: "We're not giving up hope, we have already raised £20,000. We want to raise £3 million so a clinical trial can start." For more information: cats-foundation.org
