12 April 2012

A man carries the body of his 15-year-old daughter, killed in Haiti by police trying to control looting taking place in the devastated capital Port-au-Prince.

Fabienne Cherisma, pictured above in the arms of her father Osam, 52, was shot dead yesterday afternoon.

Her family claims that police shot the teenager while firing warning shots over the heads of looters in Marthely Seiee Street. She was said to have been standing in ruins at the time of the shooting.

Fabienne's father said police deliberately targeted his daughter, while others said she was killed by a warning shot that went tragically astray. Her sister Samantha and brother Jeff saw the shooting.

The girl's mother, Armante, was pictured wailing in grief beside her daughter's body.
