Exchange weathers the storms

THE London Stock Exchange said today that trading 'continued to be resilient in a period of economic uncertainty' ahead of its year-end on Sunday.

Chief executive Clara Furse said: 'We have made notable progress on a number of initiatives focused on continued growth of our core business.'

In the 11 months to February, the number of equity bargains rose 28% to 46 million although the number of listed companies fell from 2,921 to 2,878.
