Epsom's boys see off Eton

12 April 2012

Epsom College rounded off a brilliant season by defeating Eton - their only loss being at the hands of Wellington.

The south London school started with a three-match romp around Ireland. Under coach Andy Wolstenholme's guidance, they have swept all before them except for the one narrow 13-16 reverse in Berkshire.

Epsom remain in second place in the Standard's 1st XV super league.

Wellington, that traditional school of rugby excellence, chalked up a similar notable record pre-Christmas, losing only once, to Bryanston 12-29.

League leaders St Benedict's of Ealing march on to the Daily Mail last 16, squeezing out surprise team of the year Hurspierpoint. With England international Michael Simpson to return after illness, they are eagerly anticipating the second half of the season.

Stamina award goes to Hampton: they played an astonishing 29 games before Christmas.
