EastEnders' Trevor is fired

EastEnders actor Alex Ferns today revealed that his villainous character Trevor Morgan will be killed off in a dramatic fire at the Slaters' house.

He filmed his final scenes earlier this week. "We had to do a lot of stunts and technical stuff that was really quite dangerous," he said.

"It got the adrenaline running through the old body. I did most of my own stunts but there were a couple that were too dangerous.

"It will be hugely dramatic and they say it's going to be one of the best ever. It is going to be mind-blowing. If you think you've seen Trevor at his worst - you ain't seen nothing yet."

The scenes, to be televised in six to eight weeks' time, are bound to bolster EastEnders' growing audience. It is currently pulling in more viewers than Coronation Street.

Ferns, 33, won best soap newcomer at this week's TV Quick Awards, which also saw the the plot in which Trevor terrorises his wife, Little Mo, win best soap storyline. His co-star Kacey Ainsworth, who won best soap actress for playing Mo, said: "I'm sad Alex is leaving, both as a character and as a friend."

Ferns only recently revealed he was leaving EastEnders after 18 months on the programme, though he insisted there was no animosity surrounding his departure.

He said: "I'll be leaving EastEnders within the year. I don't want to say why. It's not my choice, but it's gone the way I want it. It is good that Trevor is leaving, because you can only take a character like this so far."

Trevor was voted the most loathed man on TV after months of cruelty to Little Mo, who ended up in prison for hitting back by whacking him across the face with the iron.

EastEnders executive producer Louise Berridge said: "Trevor is one of the best villains we've ever had. But he is due his comeuppance, so Alex will be leaving."
