Dream comes true for fireman Dan

Fireman's lift: Daniel Quinn, four, joins the brigade at Clerkenwell and gives firefighter Wayne Farrelly a helping hand

A four-year-old who suffers from a serious heart defect had his Christmas wish come true when he visited a fire station.

Daniel Quinn spent the first year of his life in hospital and still requires surgery every two years to replace his pulmonary artery.

Daniel, who is a fan of Fireman Sam, visited Clerkenwell fire station and was presented with his own set of fireman overalls and helmet. The tour, which included sitting in the cab of the fire engine and spraying jets of water, was organised by Starlight Children's Foundation.

Daniel also met his hero Fireman Sam, before the charity organised a stay at the Park Plaza County Hall Hotel, a trip to the Sea LifeCentre and a trip on the London Eye. His mother Cathy Quinn, from Teynham in Kent, said: "I would like to thank everybody at Starlight for an amazing couple of days in London. Daniel hasn't stopped talking about meeting Fireman Sam. Thank you all for making my son's dream come true."

Starlight grants once-in-a-lifetime wishes for seriously and terminally ill children.
