Dowlers hit back at Met claims over Milly's deleted voicemails

THE family of Milly Dowler today hit back at Scotland Yard as the furore over the phone-hacking crisis deepened.

The Metropolitan Police has said that the News of the World was unlikely to have been responsible for deleting the murdered schoolgirl's voicemails, causing ripples at the Leveson inquiry into the press.

But today Milly's parents, Bob and Sally Dowler, said they had a "clear recollection" of the Met telling them the News of the World had deleted the voicemails in March 2002. Their lawyer Mark Lewis said: "While they remain willing to help Lord Leveson, they do not wish to make any further statement."
