Canary Wharf came to a standstill as some of Britain's top cyclists raced at high speed through the financial centre.

Olympic gold medallist Ed Clancy, Tour de France stage winner Magnus Bäckstedt and Greg Mansell, the son of Formula 1 champion Nigel, were among the competitors battling it out last night in the final of the Halfords Tour Series.

It is the second year that the centre of Canary Wharf shut down for the race and is part of a season of sporting events. Hundreds of City workers lined the course as the main event, an hour-long race, was won by Jonny McEvoy, racing for Motorpoint. Mansell came 41st.
