DMGT still interested in Telegraph

13 April 2012

DAILY Mail and General Trust indicated the Barclay brothers are in pole position to take control of the Daily Telegraph newspaper, but it is still interested in bidding.

DMGT chairman Lord Rothermere said: 'It is the perceived wisdom that the Barclays have got themselves into a very strong position.' He added: 'We are still interested.'

The battle for control of Telegraph-owner Hollinger International could involve months of legal wrangling.

Telegraph proprietor Lord Black is suing Hollinger International, while Hollinger International has filed a lawsuit to stop Black selling his controlling stake to the Barclay brothers. The latest lawsuit is a class action by a teachers' pension fund.

At DMGT's annual meeting yesterday, the group remuneration policy was approved by 96% of voting shareholders. Excluding shares owned by the Rothermere/Harmsworth family, nearly 39% of proxy votes were against the pay policy.
