Disney to make William movie

America's ABC network is planning a TV film about Prince William. A British actor is being sought to play him.

The film will be shown on the network on 13 October and, according to reports, the storyline will start with the 1997 car crash that killed his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales.

The project will be screened as part of the network's Wonderful World Of Disney franchise.

David Madden, an executive of the producer, Fox TV Pictures, said: "We basically took the tack that we were going to do a true coming of age of a kid who is going through, in some ways, all of the things that every kid goes through of dealing with adolescence, coming of sexuality and dealing with your dad."

He admitted that he was "immediately terrified" when producer Bonnie Raskin first brought the idea to him "because anytime you go near the royal family or celebrities of that ilk, it terrifies you that you're gonna do something that will feel exploitative or just tabloidish".

They decided to take a different approach and the film will be shot in England or Ireland. The big challenge is finding the perfect actor to play William. "We'll do our little version of trying to find Harry Potter," Mr Madden added.
