Detectives find body in search for missing prostitute

Detectives searching for a missing 19-year-old prostitute were today examining a body. Tania Nicol disappeared from the red light district of Ipswich, Suffolk, more than a month ago.

Police said a woman's body had been discovered in water close to a mill near Ipswich. He said the dead woman had yet to be identified.

On Saturday, the body of 25-year-old prostitute Gemma Adams - who had been missing from the red light area of Ipswich for two weeks - was found in a stream seven miles from the town.

Police have warned Ipswich prostitutes to "look out for each other" as fears rise that Miss Adams and Miss Nicol may have been killed by the same man.

Detectives are checking similar cases in East Anglia to try to establish whether a serial killer could be at large - but they say nothing to link Miss Adams' murder to any other crime has yet been found.

Miss Nicol vanished on October 30, shortly after leaving her home in Ipswich. She was caught on a CCTV camera in the town later that night.

Miss Adams, who also lived in Ipswich, disappeared in the early hours of November 15. Her naked body was found in a stream at Hintlesham, Suffolk, by a member of the public.

Detectives have not revealed how Miss Adams died. They say they are awaiting the results of further post-mortem tests. But police said she had not been sexually assaulted.

Police said the dead woman found today was also naked. The spokesman said the body was found at Copdock - a few miles outside Ipswich - by police divers conducting searches following the discovery of Miss Adams' body.

He said arrangements were being made for the body to be removed and post-mortem examination tests to be carried out.
