A woman is under arrest in hospital today after a child's body was discovered at a house, police said.

The dead youngster, believed to be a 12-year-old boy, was found by officers early this morning at a property in the village of New Ash Green, Kent.

A Kent Police spokesman said: "Just before 5.30am, police were called to an address in Knightscroft, New Ash Green, where the body of a child was found.

"At this time the death is being investigated and until further information is available the matter is being treated as unexplained."

Neighbours named the victim as James Taylor and the mother as Jenny.

One neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said: "My wife heard a loud scream and shout at around 5.30am."
