Darts champ bids for chart success

13 April 2012

World darts champion Phil "The Power" Taylor was hoping to make his mark on the pop charts with the launch of a single today.

The 11 times winner has recorded the song Better than the Best in which he raps about the challenge of staying at the top of his game.

Stoke-on-Trent born Taylor agreed to contribute his vocal talents following a meeting with darts fan and lyricist Tony Shailer at the World Championships in Kent earlier this year.

The 43-year-old, who has dominated the darts for the past decade, said: "I'm really impressed with the song and have enjoyed working on it. I'm really pleased for all the guys involved."

Co-lyricist Mike Ryde said: "As the title suggests, this is about Phil being better than the best and staying at the top.

"It is all fairly tongue in cheek. I wouldn't describe Phil's part as singing - it's more of a rap."

Mr Ryde said the recording team were now looking for a distributor to release the song.
