Cost of the holiday hangover

Businesses have to cough up £315million in sick pay to staff who wear themselves out on holiday.

Ten per cent take time off to get over too much partying, drinking and lack of sleep, a poll found.

Almost as many took a 'sickie' as were genuinely ill and 13 per cent overslept on their first day back to work.

Psychologist David Lewis said: 'People are holidaying so hard they come back to work worn out. This can cause more stress for those returning to a backlog of work.'
