Clubs to raise cash for homeless

Indira Das-Gupta12 April 2012

Some of London's top nightclubs are joining an initiative to raise money for homeless people by donating a percentage of their takings over the pre-Christmas period.

From 5-12 December a total of 40 venues around the country, including The End, Nation and Sound Factory in London will either add £1 to their door price or provide collection buckets on the night, with money going to the Centrepoint charity.

Centrepoint, the leading homelessness charity, helps 2,000 young people with accommodation and finding jobs. On a national level, the organisation helps local groups set up their own housing and advice projects for young people at risk.

The scheme, supported by Kiss 100 and Rimmel London, will be launched during a special night at Propaganda, Wardour Street on 5 December featuring Kiss DJs Andy Cato of Groove Armada, and Matt White plus guest appearances by The Stanton Warriors, DJ Lazarus and Gerry Lyesight.

The initiative follows on from the success of Club Together 2000 which raised over £50,000 for young homeless people sleeping rough in the capital. Mark Story, managing director of Kiss 100 said: "Centrepoint is doing invaluable work with London's young homeless. It is an issue which concerns everyone at Kiss."

Anthony Lawton, chief executive of Centrepoint added: "It's brilliant to see clubs across the UK getting involved this year as homelessness is a national issue."
