Climbié social worker 'won't go back to job'

A social worker sacked after the death of Victoria Climbié says she will not work in child protection again, despite winning a tribunal hearing.

Lisa Arthurworrey said she was haunted by the eight-year-old's death in November 2002, which led to her sacking by Haringey council.

The 38-year-old was criticised for failing to spot signs of abuse, and banned from working with children. This month the Care Standards Tribunal overturned a decision by the General Social Care Council, which had refused to register her as a social worker.

Ms Arthurworrey said she was suicidal after Victoria died, and was sectioned for five weeks. She told the Mail on Sunday she was told in writing by three managers to close the file on the case, even after raising concerns. "There are just too many devious hypocrites in social work," she said.

Victoria's aunt Marie-Theresa Kouao, and her boyfriend, Carl Manning, are serving life sentences for her murder.
