Class art: Freud in school show

New talent: Bryanston sixth-former Polly Carter with her giraffe photograph
12 April 2012

Works by the late Lucian Freud are hanging alongside some lesser-known talents at a new exhibition.

The artist agreed to have his work appear with that of sixth formers at his former school, Bryanston in Dorset, shortly before his death in July. Also included will be pieces by two more old boys, painter and printmaker Sir Howard Hodgkin and photographer Nigel Barker, a judge on America's Next Top Model.

Even the programme to the show at The Gallery in Cork Street is written by another former pupil, Sir Terence Conran. Mr Barker said: "It was at Bryanston that I learned the basics of photography. My housemaster, Doc Adams, helped me learn how to print black and white photographs and that started me off."

Following in his footsteps is pupil Polly Carter, 17, who is showing a photograph of a giraffe. She said: "Being part of this exhibition definitely spurs you on."

Bryanston Now runs from today until December 3.
