City of London police advise security guards to report photographers

12 April 2012

Security guards in the City of London have been instructed by police to report people acting suspiciously by taking photographs near buildings.

The advice is issued to companies under the banner of the Project Griffin initiative to recruit door staff and security personnel to be the "eyes and ears" to combat terrorism.

The document lists examples of suspicious behaviour to watch for, such as people seen making notes or sketches for no apparent reason.

Photographers have complained they are being stopped unfairly by security staff and questioned by police.
