Cerys is cockahoop with baby

13 April 2012

Singer Cerys Matthews has named her first child Glenys Pearl y-Felin, her record company has announced.

The name Glenys is a traditional Welsh name originating from the Welsh word glan, meaning "pure" or "holy".

"The Pearl part of the name is from the Matthews' family history, and the y-Felin is from the Welsh word meaning mill, and from their family roots," said a spokesman for Warner Music UK.

It is understood the Welsh singer's parents live in the Pembrokeshire village of Trefin which has an old watermill.

Glenys Pearl y-Felin was born on Sunday August 10 weighing 6lbs 10oz.

In February, former Catatonia frontwoman Matthews, 34, married American music producer Seth Riddle in a chapel near her parents' home.

Family and friends who gathered for the ceremony wore 1930s style clothes and the bride turned up in a trailer pulled by an old tractor.

Matthews had a reputation for hard-living in her days with Catatonia, with whom she had hits including Road Rage and Mulder and Scully.

She left the band in 2001 and earlier this year released a solo album, Cockahoop.
