The footage shows two people running from the area

Police have released CCTV pictures of two men sprinting from a murder scene only moments after the attack.

The grainy film shows the pair yards from where BBC librarian Tom Brown lay bleeding to death in a north London street.

Detectives emphasise the two young men - one sporting shiny white trainers - may have been fooling around and urged them to come forward so they could be eliminated from the inquiry.

Mr Brown, 27, was found dying of stab wounds in the early hours of Saturday 21 August. Police are still seeking witnesses, even though at least five people were seen to be in the area at the time.

They include a black man in a car who called an ambulance, a couple sitting on a wall and a white "scruffy" man in a tracksuit top. There is a ?20,000 reward for information about the killer.

Police say Mr Brown left a friend's house in Mayfair Terrace, Southgate, at about 3am. He was stabbed twice in the High Street, outside Chandos Court.
