Burberry star's one year of the high life

"Amazing": Patrick Wolf is thought to have spent £70,000 on renting his riverside flat for one year
12 April 2012

Singer-songwriter Patrick Wolf blew a windfall income from modelling for Burberry on living in a penthouse flat in a move that inspired a song for his new album.

The south London pop star said he had to change accountant because of the folly of blowing the cash on living in Bankside Lofts next to Tate Modern for a year.

The Falcons, the final song on his album Lupercalia released next Monday, is named after the peregrine falcons that arrived to take up home near the Tate in the week his boyfriend, William Pollock, moved in with him there.

Wolf, 27, declined to say how much the experience cost him although similar apartments are on offer for an annual rent of about £70,000.

"I splashed all my cash on a luxury penthouse for a year. It was extravagant but I just wanted to live in an expensive place. I'd been living on the hoof for years. I thought I would try something crazy," he said.

"It was really amazing. It was really good for me and it started my whole domestic thing, becoming more observant on life rather than just going out and doing gigs and partying.

There were falcons that came to nest high up and that was the big inspiration for the final track on my album."

The two men now live in a one-bedroom rented flat furnished from second-hand shops and car boot sales in Bermondsey.
