BT Retail to cut staff by 13,000

Nick Goodway12 April 2012

BT's largest business, its consumer retail division, today said that it will save £850 million over the next three years and stop the fall in revenues and profits in a radical shake-up which will see 13,000 jobs go.

BT Retail chief Pierre Danon said: "It is really a case of 'if you think you know BT, think again.'"

He said the division, which has already cut 4,000 jobs in the 12 months since it was formed, would shed another 2,000 this year and 2,000 next year. Outside agency staff will have been cut by 5,000 over the three-year period. The cut in BT Retail staff will amount to 17 per cent.

M Danon said: "I think we can achieve all this through cutting back recruitment and some reskilling." But he would also boost sales, with a new call-pricing package which was announced today, among other strategies.
