Brown bets on sure-fire winner

GAMBLING did not have such a bright prospect in the UK until the current Government came to power.

Spurred on by the lure of big tax revenues, Chancellor Gordon Brown is bringing in a wholesale deregulation of Britain's casinos, betting shops and bingo halls.

Analysts predict some £3bn of extra 'sin' taxes for the Treasury's coffers as the brave new world for gambling sucks big business into the UK betting industry.

The new laws pave the way for Las Vegas-style casinos in the UK and allow hugely lucrative fixed-odds betting terminals in shops. As the Ladbrokes figures showed today, these are already raking in millions for the big bookies.
