Paris is set to challenge London as the capital of musical theatre in Europe.

The West End has always claimed the biggest audiences and shows outside New York, but Parisian audiences are now enjoying a host of musicals.

The Sound of Music began its first French run last night, and the city is preparing for Scooby-Doo and Mamma Mia! as well as the return of Les Mis.
