Briton raped after holiday kidnap

A British woman was snatched from her husband and "viciously" raped by four men while on holiday in a Spanish resort.

The woman, 41, was kidnapped and driven 12 miles to a derelict house where she was repeatedly assaulted by the men, thought to be Algerians.

Her husband, who fought to protect her, was beaten up and left on the ground. The couple, from Somerset-were attacked during a late evening stroll along the seafront at Cabo Roig, close to Alicante.

Though "highly distressed" the victim was today helping detectives with their investigation. She told them her attackers argued and she feared they might decide to kill her.

One officer said: "The building where the men took her was not the sort of place they would come across by chance. They knew where they were going."

The woman managed to raise the alarm at around 5am after the men left the house.

Alicante, the capital of the Costa Blanca on Spain's east coast, has been seen as safe and is popular with retired Britons and secondhomers. There are estimated to be several thousand living in the area.
