Briton dies after swallowing cocaine

A Briton died after collapsing at an airport after swallowing a suspected 300 grammes of cocaine, it emerged today.

A second man, who has told police the pair were smuggling drugs, is recovering in hospital on the Caribbean island of St Lucia.

Jason Rustidge, 31, was pronounced dead in hospital after collapsing at St Lucia airport on Monday, a Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokesman said.
Dean Nassif, 31, had had a quantity of drugs removed from his body, the spokesman added.

Both men are believed to be from the Manchester area.

The FCO spokesman said: "Jason Rustidge collapsed at St Lucia Airport on November 10. The person travelling with him, Dean Nassif, said they had been smuggling cocaine."

A post mortem examination is being carried out to determine the cause of death.
