British soldier dies in Basra attack

13 April 2012

One British soldier has been killed and two injured following an attack on a military convoy in Basra, it was confirmed today.

The Ministry of Defence said the three casualties occurred at 8.25am today after what was believed to have been a bomb attack on British military vehicles.

A spokesman said they were not releasing the name of the unit for the time being. He added they were in the process of informing next of kin.
"It was a bomb attack as far as we understand," he said.

Today's blast brings the number of UK service personnel who have died during military operations in Iraq to 60 since March 21 last year.
