Bopping bobby at Notting Hill Carnival becomes internet smash

12 April 2012

Video footage of a dancing policeman enjoying the Notting Hill carnival has become an internet sensation.

More than 118,000 people across the globe have viewed the one-minute clip, which shows the middle-aged, uniformed bobby "bumping and grinding" with several festival-goers.

Websites from America to Australia have replayed the footage and a global manhunt is on to discover the officer's identity.

The video is called "Metropolitan Police Skanking" - referring to a dance style associated with ska, punk and reggae.

Dressed in an official fluorescent uniform, the officer suddenly appear in front of a sound system before dancing with several ladies and waving his helmet.

After a minute of shuffling and shaking, the portly officer is cheered by the crowd as he
returns to his post next to the speakers.

"Turtus Maximus", the Youtube user who filmed the video, wrote: "Funniest thing I have seen in a long while! And who said the police don't try to bond with the people?

"I think this is what the police needed with all the tention (sic) among officers and youths in recent weeks. I'm very glad I was there to film it, and even more glad people have a largely positive attitude towards it!"
