Body found in search for missing Briton

A body believed to be that of a British man who went missing in Sweden has been discovered, police said today.

Christopher Walker, 33, whose family live in Cambridge, was last heard from in March.

Since then police in Sweden have been attempting to trace Mr Walker without success.

Cambridgeshire police today said they had been contacted by their Swedish counterparts and told of the discovery.

"Swedish police contacted us yesterday to tell us they had found the body of a man which they thought was Mr Walker," said a spokeswoman.

"Formal identity has not yet been completed and I understand a postmortem examination is taking place.

"Mr Walker's family are aware of the developments and are being offered every support by us."

A Foreign Office spokeswoman said officials were aware of the discovery and were monitoring the situation.Mr Walker was last heard from on March 24 and was reported missing to Cambridgeshire police early in April.

The Cambridgeshire police spokeswoman said she believed the body had been discovered on an island off Stockholm.
