BMI British Midland is set to extend the budget airline market by quadrupling its bmibaby no-frills fleet from two to eight over the next year. It said bmibaby is on course to carry half a million passengers from its East Midlands Airport base in the nine months to the end of the year and is already flying 74% full on its eight routes.

British Midland is slashing fares on its full-service domestic flights out of Heathrow with tickets starting from £29 one way to Northern airports.
