BBC wins World Cup ratings battle

The BBC trounced ITV in the ratings battle for World Cup final viewers on a scale of four to one.

As Brazil beat Germany 2-0, the BBC took 7.9 million viewers and 57 per cent of audience share. ITV took less than two million viewers and just 14 per cent of audience share, according to unofficial figures. It was another setback for ITV, which lost every ratings battle of the Cup.

Also in sport, Greg Rusedski's Wimbledon win on Friday attracted 4.5 million viewers to BBC1. But the Glastonbury festival had just 500,000 viewers on Friday night on BBC2 and finished with just under a million on Sunday.
