BBC fails to calm furious Queen over Crowngate affair

12 April 2012

The Queen is said still to be "extremely angry" about being misrepresented in a BBC1 documentary - despite the resignation of controller Peter Fincham.

Mr Fincham was forced to step down on Friday after an independent inquiry attacked a trailer for the film, A Year With The Queen, as a series of "misjudgments, poor practice and ineffective systems".

The Queen: 'Still angry' over Crowngate

During a Press conference in July, Mr Fincham wrongly implied that the programme's publicity footage showed the Queen apparently "losing it a bit'" and storming out of a photoshoot "in a huff".

But it was later revealed that the excerpt had been edited out of sequence and actually showed Her Majesty arriving for a session with the American photographer Annie Leibovitz.

A senior Palace source told The Mail on Sunday: "The Queen is as angry today as she was four months ago. She is incandescent that we have had to force an apology out of them.

"It is also very overdue. Relations between the Palace and the BBC remain ice cold. They seem to fail to understand communication is their business."

The source also said he believed there was "only a 25 per cent chance" the film would be screened, although he insisted that the Palace had not made any official objection to it being broadcast.
