Basinger's custody battle

13 April 2012

Hollywood couple Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger briefly met in court yesterday in their custody battle for their daughter.

The acting duo have been fighting over eight-year-old Ireland since their divorce in 2001.

Both agreed to have the five-day Los Angeles custody hearing held behind closed doors, and had reporters ejected from the courtroom.

Attorney Neal Hersh for Basinger told the court: "Ireland should not be exposed to an unprecedented media frenzy."

Basinger, 50, has physical custody of Ireland. Baldwin, 45, has visitation rights.

Basinger won an Academy Award for best supporting actress the 1997 film "L.A. Confidential." Baldwin, 45, is nominated for a best supporting actor Oscar this year for his role in "The Cooler."
