12 April 2012

A prosecution barrister was behind bars today after trying to swindle £15,000 from a businessman.

Senior Crown Prosecution Service advocate Peter Shah, 37, of Winchmore Hill, was jailed for 21 months at the Old Bailey. Victim Rajesh Ahir was bombarded with calls and text messages which demanded money.

Shah tried to con the businessman by saying a fictitious police officer he knew could stop the calls for £15,000.

After his arrest the barrister told Mr Ahir he would expose him as a fraudster unless he dropped charges. Shah was accused of deception and intimidation. He also faced a charge of blackmail but this was not proceeded with.
