Bad weather delays space balloon bid

13 April 2012

Two British pilots are today waiting to see if bad weather further delays their attempt to fly a balloon to the edge of space.

Andy Elson and Colin Prescot were due to launch QinetiQ 1 at 6am today off the Cornwall coast but the launch is being put back by 24 hours owing to "unfavourable cloud conditions".

The pilots' attempt to break the 42-year-old world record will see them try to take the balloon 25 miles.
