Bad hair day for Camilla

Blow dry: Camilla has trouble with the wind

She was delighted to be on her first public engagement in England with her new husband - but the Duchess of Cornwall's hairdo ended up being severely weatherbeaten yesterday.

Try as she might, she could not keep it in place as annoying gusts of wind swept across Regents Park in London, where the royal couple were opening a new sports pavilion.

Charles and Camilla sheltered from heavy rain under separate black brollies as the duchess - in a navy blue coat with satin collar - struggled to smooth down her hair. 'I'm going to go off like Mary Poppins,' she joked.

Later, they attended a reception in Buckingham Palace - Charles's first with his new bride.

He said: 'It has been a great pleasure for my wife and I to meet so many of you who have organised these imaginative events.'

They were marking the launch of Museums and Galleries Month, aimed at boosting visitor numbers.
