BA passengers face flights without food until the weekend

British Airways was forced to cancel more flights at Heathrow today causing ongoing disruption for thousands more passengers.

They included services to San Francisco, Tokyo and Dubai.

Travellers on short and long haul flights could also be left without food until the end of the week because of the disruption to catering supplies, said union leaders. With flight crew and aircraft out of place, disruption to flights will last until Friday.

A second strike by cabin crew, this time for four days, begins on Saturday. There is no sign of new talks between BA and Unite, the cabin crews' union, to try to settle the dispute although both sides say they are "available".

BA confirmed "some cancellations" at Heathrow but refused to say how many. A spokeswoman said this was the "knock-on effect" of the three-day walkout. She said the number of cancellations today was "fewer than anticipated" and all services were operating normally to and from Gatwick and London City airports.

Tony Woodley, Unite joint general secretary, yesterday asked BA for more talks. His spokeswoman said: "Since then there has been nothing but silence from the company. It is very worrying and negotiations need to begin again."

BA will announce later today the service it will run if the four-day strike goes ahead on Saturday. The dispute is costing the company £7 million a day.
