The Business

Banco Santander

The Spanish bank is expected to provide details of the £300m it is planning after acquiring Abbey National.

GlaxoSmithKline

The pharmaceutical company will report this week their third-quarter profits that have been hit by generic competition. Profits are expected to have dropped 12%.

Boots

The chemist chain is expected to reveal a 20% first half drop in profits as the cots of restructuring begins to bite.

The Independent

Lord Lang of Monkton

The President of the Board of Trade in the last Conservative government is under pressure to resign from the board of Marsh & McLennan, the insurance broker accused of corruption.

Whitbread

New boss Alan Parker is expected to deliver a £500m bonanza for shareholders this week by revealing plans to sell off a chunk of the Marriot hotel estate.

Qantas

Staff are threatening to disrupt the flight schedule during the Christmas period unless the airline promises to limit the number of cabin crew based in London.

The Observer

MG Rover

The beleagurered car maker will this week admit to a disastrous yearly performance after seeing heavy losses following a slump in the share price.

Prudential

Leading investors are putting pressure on Jonathan Bloomer to stand down as chief executive of Prudential after last week's surprise £1bn rights issue to finance the growth of the business.

BP and Shell

The oil giants are expected to report record third-wuarter profits this week, thanks to a soaring oil price that is expected to remain close to $50 a barrel until the spring.

Lazard

Lazard may be forced to scrap plans to seek a listing on the stock market because of a civil war raging at the investment bank. The French chairman, Michel David-Weill is at loggerheads with American chief executive Bruce Wasserstein.

Ofcom

A row has broken out between the telecommunications industry watchdog and ICSTIS, the body that regulates the premium rate telephone services, who accuses Ofcom of failing prevent consumers from fraudsters using the numbers.

Sainsbury's

George Magan is working on a £5bn takeover of struggling supermarket chain J Sainsbury.

Marks & Spencer

M&S will reveal on Tuesday that it is buying back £2.3bn of its shares at a lower-than-expected price of between 355p and 360p each.

FSA

The FSA has delivered an ultimatum to the 30 individuals being investigated for their role in the split-cap investment trust debacle.

Express newspapers

Publisher Richard Desmond paid himself £46.2m last year, more than double the year before and enough to push his empire into the red.

Marmite

Lennox Holdings, which is expected to announce a float on Aim tomorrow, is buying European Supplies, a company that specialises in wholesaling British favourites like Marmite to Spanish retailers.

Sportingbet

The world's largest internet betting group is in talks to acquire online poker firm, Paradisepoker, for more than £170m.

Manchester United

Malcolm Glazer's sons are expected to begin wooing Man U's leading shareholders this week as the fmaily steps up its campaign to take over the soccer club.
