£70 William mug goes on sale

Prince Charles has turned royal shopkeeper by opening a souvenir store at his new London home, Clarence House.

Royal fans can buy a range of memorabilia, including china plates and mugs, to commemorate the late Queen Mother - the entire collection costs £600.

Prices range from £3.95 postcards featuring the royal family to a £65 pearl necklace, similar to the one the Queen-Mother favoured, and a £70 china mug to mark Prince William's 21st birthday.

Proceeds will go to the Royal Collection and running costs for opening Clarence House, which cost £4.6 million to the taxpayer and £1.65 million to Charles to renovate.

Today 178-year-old Clarence House, formerly the Queen Mother's residence, was opened to the public for the first time. Some 45,000 visitors' tickets at £5 apiece have already been sold.

Many of the Queen Mother's possessions, including a great collection of artworks, remain, and there are insights into her life.

Framed family photos can be seen, and her bookshelves reveal no fewer than 13 titles by racing author Dick Francis.
