£30,000 payout for girl who lost fingers

A girl who lost three fingers after they were severed in the lid of a hospital incubator has won nearly £30,000 in an out-of-court settlement.

Shineece Cudjoe weighed 3lb when she was born two months premature in 1999, and returned to the Royal London Hospital to have treatment for a hernia. Her mother Doris Obeng was told an incubator lid had damaged the baby's fingers.

Shineece, now five, won the payout from Barts and The London NHS Trust after it admitted liability.
