AOL and Lastminute announce new deal

12 April 2012

AOL Europe said it has forged a partnership with Britain's Lastminute.com in a move that is expected to boost holiday package orders for the travel and entertainment site.

The Internet service provider will completely integrate Lastminute.com's travel booking engine into its service, reaching some five million members. In addition Lastminute will offer exclusive deals to AOL members in Germany, Britain and France.

"This is one of the more significant deals we'll do this year. We're picking the winners (on the Internet)," said AOL Europe's senior vice president Jerry Glover.

No financial details were disclosed, but sources close to the deal said Lastminute will pay around $1 million for the 12-month agreement.

By integrating Lastminute, AOL is giving something of a vote of confidence to the British Internet company, which went public with great fanfare at the height of the Internet bubble in the spring of 2000, only to have its share price plummet to one-seventh of its highest price.
