Antony Worrall Thompson to seek treatment after shoplifting arrest

Arrest: Antony Worrall Thompson was cautioned for shoplifting items from Tesco in Henley-on-Thames
13 April 2012

Celebrity chef Antony Worrall Thompson says he has been crying himself to sleep since being caught shoplifting cheese and wine from Tesco.

The Ready Steady Cook star said he was at a loss to explain his behaviour: "I've sobbed myself to sleep - not because I've been feeling sorry for myself. I'd never do that. It's just not knowing why I've done this and the feeling I've let people down."

He added: "We've moved home, which is stressful and it means I have to take two hours of every day driving to the restaurant and back. But I can't really blame that."

There had also been "the funerals of a couple of close friends", health problems, giving up smoking and tiredness caused by anaemia.

Worrall Thompson, 60, was cautioned by police after stealing from a Tesco in Henley-on-Thames on Friday, the fifth time he had done so.

He said he hoped that psychoanalysis would help, adding: "It's like a little devil sitting at my shoulder or something."
