Another arrest over Mary Ann murder

A new arrest has been made in connection with the murder of Mary Ann Leneghan.

Detectives said a man was held in south London last night.

Another suspect spent the night in custody and will be questioned today after a magistrate granted detectives an extra day to hold him.

Three other men have been charged with 16-year-old Mary-Ann's murder and the attempted murder of her 18-year-old friend in Reading.

Two of the men, Adrian Thomas, 19, of south-east London, and Indrit Krasniqi, 18, of west London, will appear before Reading magistrates today also charged with kidnap.

The girls were abducted by a gang of up to six men on the night of 6 May from the car park at the disused Wallingford Arms pub. They were taken to a guesthouse in Reading where they were sexually abused before being dumped at nearby Prospect Park early the next day.

Mary Ann died from a stab wound to the neck. Her friend survived and managed to raise the alarm after being shot in the head.

On Saturday Jamaile Morally, 21, from Balham, was remanded in custody to appear at Reading Crown Court. He was charged with Mary Ann's murder, the attempted murder of her friend, kidnap and rape.

Two women and a man, also arrested in connection with the killing, were released on police bail on Saturday night.

Detective Superintendent Mark Warwick urged anyone with information to come forward.
