The art of food: Angela Hartnett
12 April 2012

Angela Hartnett is to take over the restaurant at the Whitechapel Gallery in her first new venture since breaking her links with Gordon Ramsay in October.

The Michelin-starred chef and restaurateur, who lives nearby in Spitalfields, will help overhaul the menu and service at the gallery.

Hartnett, 42, and Diego Cardoso, her head chef at Murano, have teamed up with caterers Smart Hospitality, who will operate the dining room at the 110-year-old East End gallery.

It will reopen on January 15, with a menu that will change daily and focus on British ingredients.

Hartnett said: "I love the Whitechapel Gallery and I want us to serve the sort of food people really want to eat."

She bought the controlling stake in her Mayfair restaurant Murano from Gordon Ramsay Holdings for an estimated £1.5million last year.
